Mikes General Responsiblilties are to Oversee internal and external player personel staff, scouting college and pro players, and devolope and improve internal processes. some things that he likes about his job are tape watching and evaluating those tapes. contributing to the onfield product, draft selections, decision making processes, etc. he also enjoys seeing people that he manages, achieve their goal. some of the dislikes that mike has about his job are losing, being asked to achieve a lot with limited recources. when people that he manages dont reach their expectations and the workload is just too much at times. During the weekdays, Mike works from around 7am to 9pm with fridays being a little shorter, Saturday hours being from 8am to 6pm and Sundays are typically off. he usually dresses casually in jeans and a sweatshirt, polo and sneakers. Some of his benefits include meals being provided at work, free tickets to the games, and occational sideline passes, free browns gear and use of the teams weight room.
His education is a bachelors of Science in Statistics with a minor in mathematics from the university of Minnesota
As far as the scouting industry goes, the salary ranges from $25,000 for entry level scouts up to 6 or 7 figures for the executives. The opportunity for advancement really depends on what the individual wants to do with their career. once a person gets passed the entry level role, it's up to him if he wants to be involved with management or would prefer to be an area/pro scout. others go into management situations will typically work themselves up from area/pro scout, to assistant director, to assistant gm, them gm.
some tips for those who aspire to obtain a similar job are Continually learn and improve. Gain relevant experience before trying to get an NFL job. Figure out a way to get an entry level job in the business and work really hard to show that you can do your next role or any role. Have some natural talent for scouting. Work on softer skills like time management, process management, organization, interpersonal skills, public speaking, writing, etc. Lacking high level scouting talent or relevant experience, bring something to the table that others can’t provide.
